Tips for setting up a comfortable office Space
Setting Up a Comfortable Office Whether you have a whole room or just a corner in the kitchen for your office, try to organize your desk and chair for optimal comfort. If you’re able to face a window or a door, you won’t feel as confined in your work area and you’ll have more natural light and space. Make sure you set up your desk and wall organization, like calendars and shelving, so you can easily reach the items you need. Your office chair is definitely an item that should favor function over style. If you don’t have a comfortable chair with good support and movement, you won’t be able to work efficiently or for extended periods if you need to. An uncomfortable chair can also cause serious back and neck pain. Lighting is another important part of your work environment. Overhead lights can be harsh or create a glare in your area. A small lamp adds warmth while illuminating your desk with inviting light. Good lighting also prevents eyestrain, which will tire you out faster and reduce your productivity. Inviting Ways to Organize Even if you already have an organization system for your desk, there are ways to make it more welcoming. Try to keep a section of the main desk surface free and open at all times. That way, even if you have files or shelves on your desk, you’ll always have a clean, uncluttered spot to sit down and work. Practice cord management. Tack unsightly cords up under the desk or hide them under a small rug to prevent tripping or getting your chair caught up. If you have a file system or mailboxes on your desk you can hide cords under or behind these items. Add some personalization to your organization tools. Use memorable photos of your family members to decorate mailboxes and use folders, shelves and containers in colors that will energize and inspire you instead of the usual blacks, browns, and manila. One tip for desk space is to install shelves on the wall behind your desk. You can keep your stapler, paper clips etc there.
